C&W has completed the refurbishment works of the 300 sq m reception area at Akadémia Business Center (formerly known as Akadémia Bank Center) in Budapest at Akadémia street.

Akadémia Business Center is an A category office building located in the heart of Budapest’s CBD serving as Raiffeisen Bank’s HQ offices. After Raiffeisen handed back some of their area, an upgrade to this reception was essential in order to make the building more attractive and suitable for other tenants.

The Design Plan was developed by Mádi-Láncos Stúdió, the Fit-Out works completed by DVM and the entire process was managed and supervised by C&W’s Project Management department.

The main idea was to create a modern and symbiotic environment which generated an attractive contrast between the building and its historical surroundings. This included installing new materials, lighting solutions and furniture. It was also important to open up the lobby towards the Danube. The refurbishment included changing of the old marble walls and floors to modern gres tiles, and gypsum walls with stucco accompanied with coloured glass wall panels. Another important feature is the new elegant mirror-surfaced reception counter with circular lights hanging from above. The main “wow effect” has been created by the mirroring wall / cube element (the “monolith”) which is positioned in the middle of the space and has a surprising visual effect. Two interactive plasma screens were also installed to provide up to date information for visitors.

Ádám Csikós Associate, Head of Project Management at C&W Budapest said: “This was a very special project for us, not just because of the technical challenges and the difficulty of working in an operating office environment, but because it the plan was so design centric. The spectacular final result exceeded all expectations and I believe it can act as the benchmark for other similar properties.”

Akadémia Business Center was built as the HQ of the first Danube Steamboat Company in the 1860’s and was later turned into a 13,200 sq m office building with 7 floors. C&W is the joint exclusive leasing agent in the building.
